Prism’s Birthday Post #2: Our Ministry Strategy

We desire to be a Genuine Community of Christ-followers who are Gospel-centered in all that we do.  Prism’s mission is comprehensive and holistic, but it begins with the Gospel. Believers who genuinely understand intellectually and comprehend emotionally the truth of God’s grace in Christ become vibrant followers of Jesus. The absence of Gospel understanding or comprehension can lead to insecurity about one’s salvation and/or a lack of love for God which provides the impulse to obedience and the seeking of Christ-like character. Our strategic priority is to Revive Believers.

We believe that in our context (western, urban, individualistic, postmodern and politically polarized), the most effective means of reaching unbelieving people with the Gospel is through personal relationships. Through friendships rooted in sacrificial love, non-believers can see through the smog of our divisive culture and recognize the fruit of the Holy Spirit in the life of a loved one. Additionally, as Jesus has said, through a Christian’s love for other Christians, friends will know that we are genuinely His disciples. But a lethargic believer won’t be compelled to share a faith that isn’t vibrant. Hence, we aim to Revive Believers so that out of love for God and others they will Reach Friends.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” – JOHN 13:34-34

The byproduct of genuine Christ-followers experiencing Gospel-centered community should be a church that is enthusiastically pursuing the Renewing of Culture. Why? Because Jesus has come to make us new, and to renew His creation. As we’re involved in the renewal of culture, people see the body of Christ (the church) literally embodying Jesus in our time. We are the incarnation of the Lord’s presence in our world. God desires to be seen and has chosen the church to be the means by which He is glorified. However, only vibrant Christians will be passionate enough to share their faith with family and friends who don’t know and comprehend the Gospel. Fully engaged Christians and genuine converts to Christianity are the ones called to mirror the love of God to our world.
