Prism Links--Some Acts Resources
We recently started a new series on Acts and we will be in it for quite some time, so now is a great opportunity to get some background on one of the most important books of the New Testament. We are hoping that as a church, we can really deeply understand God’s message for us and how it relates to our identity and mission and POWER as a church!
Geography is very important in the book of Acts, from the beginning when Jesus predicts the spread of the gospel to “the ends of the earth.” The story is constantly tracking locations—movements of the apostles into Samaria, and Damascus, and Antioch, and Cyprus, and eventually to almost every corner of the world they then knew. Tracking where everything is as you read is very helpful for a lot of people! These maps can help orient you. They are a great resource.
What is the big picture of Acts? Where is it going and what relation does the part you are reading have to the whole? Keeping the large context in mind can be difficult unless you have the whole book memorized! This resource can help as it establishes the big picture. Use it, however, with reminder that it is a human summary and not infallible.
These two articles are a little bit headier, but as you the help track two of the major themes of the book of Acts throughout the whole book. In this way, they also help give us context, but from a more theological perspective. The first theme is on the evangelistic preaching of the apostles in the book of Acts. The second is on the work of the Holy Spirit.
